Happy New Day!

It's Tuesday, January 6th. What's so special about today? It's a NEW day, that's what.

The new year naturally brings on thoughts of reflection and new beginnings, but what if we could feel that way with every new day? Good news. You can!  Celebrate today and all the promises today brings. Live fully, not half-fully ;) (warning: my jokes are super cheesy).

I'm the world's worst when it comes to taking my own advice but this is something I'm practicing currently and hoping will turn into a habit here soon. We're not promised tomorrow so why do we spend so much of our time and effort worrying about it and missing the joy that's in front of us right now?

After a recent trip to Durango, Colorado I started thinking about all of the things and places I miss out on simply because I'm either not open to them or don't make the time. I'll be honest when I say, I didn't even want to go to Durango. Yet, it turned out to be the best trip of my life.

My husband's work schedule is pretty hectic and due to that most of our vacations and plans are completely spur of the moment. It's been a dream of mine to see the mountains for the first time and ski amongst snow-filled trees and smiling faces for as long as I can remember. I've heard of Breckenridge and Crested Butte and Taos and Angel Fire, etc. But Durango? Why was it so cheap and why have I never heard of it?  It's amazing the tricks our minds can play on us when something seems too good to be true.

But it wasn't... too good to be true that is. It was magical and refreshing and exactly what both of us needed. We spent meaningful time together. We laughed (mostly when I fell off the ski lift multiple times), we talked for hours, we ate (too much), we saw things and places, we cried, we prayed (together), we celebrated 2015, and I'm pretty sure we dreamed up a few more business plans. We lived fully. And we didn't want to leave.

Alas, it was time to go home and I spent the better part of our 11 hour drive reading. If you know me at all right now, you're really confused because you know I have never been much of a reader. Call it a resolution if you want, but I'm just calling it "investing in myself". Resolutions get a bad rap & I don't want anything negative associated with these positive vibes I'm beaming. If you haven't read #GIRLBOSS and you're a girl with a dream.. you definitely should. It's so encouraging and inspiring without being intimidating. There's no one clear path to success and Sophia's story makes that pretty clear.

I also downloaded the Jesus Calling app to my phone. At one point I had it on my phone, but due to my 16gb phone storage (and partly) ok mostly due to my photo taking/social media addiction.. somewhere along the way I deleted every app but Instagram. Clearly my priorities needed some work. We all fall short and I'm her to admit I am no different. 2014 was filled with a lot of my plans for my life. This year that's all changing. No more safe-thinking, no more control freakish ways, no more pity parties when things don't go my way. I'm building my faith, taking one day at a time and I'm giving it to God. His plans are so much better than mine could ever be and I'm so excited to see what he has in store for this beautiful life he has given me.
